"How Children Learn and Grow, Part 1: The Mind" by Scott Miller, cofounder and Program Director of Foundations School Community, a private K - 8 progressive school in Van Nuys, California. He is also the cofounder and Board Chairman of Our Community School, a public K - 6 charter school in North Hills, California. The mind is the machinery that drives a life. This lecture examines the inner workings of our minds, and offers several essential techniques that support ongoing mental development.

Tuesday, December 16 @ 7 pm:
How Children Learn and Grow, Part 2: Intelligence and Emotion" by Scott Miller. Emotion is the maintenance system of the intelligence. Unfortunately, most of us learn to suppress our natural emotional mechanisms during childhood. In turn, we come to suppress many of the unfathomable intellectual possibilities available to us. This lecture explores the special relationship between intelligence and emotion, and offers practical tools for effectively maintaining optimal intellectual performance.

Tuesday, January 13 @ 7 pm:
How Children Learn and Grow, Part 3: Communication" by Scott Miller. Playwright George Bernard Shaw once said, "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." This lecture examines the various modalities through which we communicate, and provides a framework for developing powerful communication skills for ourselves and children alike.

Tuesday, March 31 @7 pm:
Early Childhood Development and Kindergarten Readiness by Bonnie Bruce, cofounder of Chancy and Bruce Educational Resources, Inc. School readiness is defined as the ability to cope, learn, and achieve without undue stress. The decision as to when a child should enter the school system, public or private, is one of the most important decisions a parent must make. Bonnie will share her research and the components of what a developmental 5-5 12 year old looks like.

Tuesday, April 21 @ 7 pm:
Getting into Elementary School: Private and Public by Kim Hamer, CEO of Getintoprivateschool.com and
Tanya Anton, author of The Westside Guide to Public Elementary Schools. They will spend 60 minutes addressing private and public schools and 30 minutes of Question & Answer.
